A National Spotlight on Scotland's New Rock Home
Ahead of our launch, national newspaper The National sat down with broadcasting stalwart Tom Russell โ the man tasked with bringing ROCK.SCOT to the airwaves โ to talk about why Scotland needs a dedicated home for rock.
With more than four decades behind the mic, from Radio Clyde to Rock Radio 96.3, Russell told the paper he's building playlists that the big commercial stations simply wouldn't touch โ spanning the genre's giants alongside Scottish acts like Nazareth, Big Country, Gun and Skerryvore.
"There's absolutely no reason why we can't offer an alternative." โ Tom Russell, speaking to The National
The piece highlights our 17-strong roster of presenters and the genuinely international reaction to our test transmissions โ with listeners tuning in and sending messages from the United States, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, Sweden, Finland and Australia. As Russell put it, people are simply stumbling across the stream and loving the choice of music.
It's a flying start for a station built on one simple idea: championing Scottish rock, old and new, with the kind of broad, fearless playlist the major networks have long abandoned.
